A Healthy Dose of Self-Doubt

The Unnecessary Line

Who are you?

Do you matter?

Yes, you!

I'll bet you matter.

I don't think that I do.

I have no legacy.

No one will plant a garden, erect a building, or even a small statue in my honor when I'm gone.

No one will remember my name in a hundred years.

I will NOT live on.

He had spaghetti to celebrate his birthday.

I will simply cease to exist...

Fade into nothingness.

I have nothing in my arsenal to change this ugly truth.

People, not knowing I’m gone, will go about their business.

I am as inconsequential as one can be.

And yet...

I matter to those who matter,

And that's enough for me.

I love that last line, such a positive ending :-)

My cousin always told me, 100 years from now we all will just be a picture on the wall, and they will say what funny clothes we wore. Others don't even get a place on the wall. I have made peace with my exit, and just wish those left behind will have a good life. If course burying my child at 44 years of age, could have shaped how I feel. Great poem, a little sad, but the last line, saying you matter to those that matter, is enough, and more than a lot of people have, look at the Hackmans.

Everyone matters to those who matter, whether they know it or not. And tbh, almost everyone will be forgotten in 100 years. Imagine the world then; an AI-dominated hellscape. No thank you! We're in the best era ^_^

  • Power to you 🐲🐉🐾🐾🐉🐉🐾🐉🐉🐲🐲🐉🐾🐾🐉🐉

  • I love that last line, Julie. And that really should matter enough for all of us.

  • Orrr, just hear me out, why don't you build a statue foe yourself hehehehe. Loved your take on this challenge!
