11 With car keys in hand he walked down the driveway with Joanna’s library book under his arm. Looking at the Toyota there was someone clearly behind the wheel but the glare of the afternoon sun made it impossible to distinguish any specific features of the individual. Trying to keep the paranoid thoughts from creeping back into the forefront of his mind, he just kept walking to the car to get his errands underway.

8 Michael woke-up gasping and rolled off the couch. Coughing and trying to steady his breathing he looked at his right wrist and saw four shallow crescent punctures in his skin. Looking around the living room he laughed at himself. Was he really expecting to see the open grave right there in the middle of the floor? Picking himself up off the floor he turned off the 6 o’ clock news and walked upstairs to get into the shower. Puzzled by the dream he was content that it was different, but confused as to the point of it. On top of all the emotions he was feeling, he was anxious to tell his dream to Joshua to find out what his opinion was.

5 When he was finished in town he drove home making one last stop at the liquor store a few blocks from the house. He used to drink when he was in college before going to the seminary, but stopped when he and Joanna started dating and he never continued. Since she passed he really hadn’t gave it much thought, until today. He bought a bottle of Jack Daniels and a six pack of Coca-Cola. He was emotionally exhausted and felt physically drained from accepting his past congregation’s sympathies of hugs and handshakes. He wanted to get drunk and forget. But if he called and cancelled his plans with Joshua that would be a “sign”. Besides he already promised. With his new necessities by his side he pulled into his driveway fighting the urge to start pouring a drink before putting the groceries away.

2 He awoke to the droll bantering of the newscasters talking about what movie star was arrested and all other nonsense that was not really news. Looking at the clock on the mantel he decided to get up and get something to eat. Though his appetite diminished a little more every day the nearer the anniversary day came, he figured he should at least force himself to eat. It was almost 9 o’ clock which meant Joshua would be calling to check on him. Even though he hated being checked on, he liked knowing that his best friend was thinking about him. It wasn’t like they would find him in the bathtub with his wrists slit, but Joshua would call anyway.

I “Michael help me please.” Joanna cried while she laid in a pool of her blood in her once white dress, gasping for her every breath. Michael knew he was running towards her, but he wasn’t closing any distance to her. The harder he tried, the farther away she seemed to be. She continued to cry out for him, then that skinhead walked to her. That skinhead with the swastika tattoo on his neck, and gun in his hand. Michael tried harder to run faster as the skinhead knelt down over Joanna with his gun to her head. He could hear her sobbing as the bullet was being chambered, and the skinhead looked at Michael and smiled. His smile revealed beastly pointed teeth that matched his soulless black eyes.
