A new report, based on data from the SPHEREx mission (a spacecraft designed to map the origins of the universe, conveniently repurposed to watch this object), reveals that 3I/ATLAS is not just a rock. It is a chemical factory. And in December 2025, it didn't just drift; it erupted. The "Cocktail" or The Contagion? NASA’s press release is filled with beautiful, poetic language. They say the comet is releasing a "cocktail of chemicals that haven’t been exposed to space for billions of years." They list the ingredients: Methanol. Methane. Water.
